$3 Million Opening Night for Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Friday update: Wuthering Heights earned $3 million on its first night in U.S. theaters. The R-rated romantic drama is the latest film from Emerald Fennell following Promising Young Woman and Saltburn.
Originally published a year before the death of Emily Brontë under the pen name “Ellis Bell,” Wuthering Heights tells the story of destructive relationships between two families: the Earnshaws and the Lintons. Mr. Lockwood, the tenant of Thrushcross Grange, serves as the story’s first narrator, learning the history of Wuthering Heights through the longtime housekeeper, Nelly Dean. The tragic and romantic tale between the orphaned Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earnshaw, forms the emotional core of the narrative. Margot Robbie stars as Catherine Earnshaw, while Jacob Elordi portrays Heathcliff. Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif round out the cast.
The adaptation is projected to reach $55 million in the United States and $40 million in international markets by Sunday. Produced on an $80 million budget by Warner Bros., the film is playing in a total of 18,000 theaters worldwide.
Wuthering Heights is expected to claim the No. 1 spot this weekend, easily surpassing Sony’s animated family film Goat, which is projected to gross around $25 million. The animation earned $1 million in Thursday previews.
Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, and Peyman Maadi, sold $1 million worth of tickets on its opening night and is targeting a $15–17 million debut.
